Box Leagues – Use of Single Yellow Spot Ball - Boxes 6,7 and 8
As I have written before England Squash is promoting the wider use of the Single Spot yellow ball to promote the quality of the game for the wider community and those lower down the ranking ladder.
The single spot leads to a faster more enjoyable game with longer rallies and it rewards the player with the greater technical skills to kill the ball.
Equally for the Boxes above if both players agree to do so please try it.
Our Courts are better insulated and warmer than they used to be however once the external temperature reaches single figures the Double Yellow ball doesn’t bounce well and below 5C it isn’t much fun to play with. As an example we have played Team Matches with single yellow balls during the recent cold snap when the double yellow was a pudding. It didn’t alter the result (I think we lost. Doh! However, there were some rallies).
As we approach the Summer months this is less of an issue however the point of playing squash at our level is to enjoy the game. It isn’t much fun if the ball doesn’t bounce. As a rule of thumb if the ball is going cold between rallies it is probably too cold for the double yellow.
Last comment, if your opponent kills the ball so that it hits the nick and runs across the floor once this is good luck, if they keep doing it they may just be aiming at it. Your job is to cut out their opportunities by stop hitting the ball to them where they can do it.
Good luck with that.
