New junior squash league

Hello

We at Burghfield are incredibly excited to create our own Junior Squash League. The leagues aim is to give our juniors the opportunity to play one another competitively, in a friendly environment.

The league will be a round Robin, so each player can play one another. There will be no relegation or promotion at this stage. The league will run for 8-10 weeks giving players the chance to play as many matches as possible. Players will be required to play wearing the junior goggles for safety and this is a non negotiable. Pairs will be placed in the desks at the club for your use and you must put them back, but we advise you to buy your own.

Matches are best of 5 games (first to 3). The games will be point a rally scoring, first to 15 points wins the game. If tied at 14 all, you must win by two clear points, so continue until you get a scoreline such as 16-14. The matches will need to be organised seperately by the individuals with log ins, so book a court and get playing. Parents are to be responsible for their child when in the squash club. Matches cannot be played during the Sunday morning coaching session.

Full squash rules apply and the basics are up on the boards by the court and in more detail on the England Squash website. The players playing will count the score together confirming the score at the end of each point. The players will also agree let's and strokes. If unsure at all players call a let again this is for safety so if anyone is unsure of hitting their opponent or being too close then please call a let.

To sportsmanship, as squash is a very competitive game its essential that it is played with good sportsmanship. It is acceptable to get frustrated at yourself but please be aware this is a friendly league looking to keep people playing and enjoying the sport. This requires all players to shake hands at the end of the match. Hopefully talk to each other about what the other person did well or what they could do next time.

I will do a briefing to welcome you all the to the league on Sunday 22nd September at 9:40am, this is to clear up any questions you may have.

Thanks

Gareth
