Resumption of Squash – Saturday 25th July

In line with the announcement yesterday we will re open for play from the 25th July. The SRA will issue the Club with guidelines and a toolkit to implement this next week.

We will adopt the Government guidance and progress accordingly. As soon as we know what is permissible we will advise you. The expectation is that resumption will not be going back to how we were previously immediately so we will have to fall in line with any recommendations and go from there. Personally I am pleased that we are at last making some progress and I know from feedback I have received that many of you are keen to play as soon as possible. There will be others less sure about it and we will respect both viewpoints. The Club has already made some preliminary preparations and these will be stepped up. We are limited physically as clearly the Squash Club is not a tardus and we will have to work with the space we have however we will endeavour to make it as safe as practical and user friendly to boot. To that end we will issue working guidelines on expectations of you.

We are an unmanned facility and this will not change. We can and will step up the regular cleaning but on top of that we will expect people to adopt exemplary hygiene practises and to follow any guidelines we issue. There will be hand gel and cleaning products available and we will explain what we would like you to do to assist us in making the environment clean and safe for all.

This is good news at last.

The SRA statement is appended below.

England Squash update
9 July: Today, the UK Government announced that indoor sports facilities in England can reopen from 25th July with social distancing in place. In the meantime, we are interpreting the newly-released Government guidance. We will finalise and release full guidance for clubs and venues to facilitate safe play during the week commencing 13th July. Please keep an eye on social media and email for further information. Thanks for your patience, we look forward to seeing the safe return of the game.

We will issue our plans and working guidelines as soon as we have them. I hope to see some of you soon and hopefully with a squash racquet in hand!
