Handicap Tournament – Saturday December 21st
On Saturday 21st December instead of a normal Club Night we are holding the annual Handicap tournament which will run from 4.30pm through to about 7pm. Entry will be £4 per person which will fund the “fabulous” prizes and will be limited to 16 players. If you are interested please let me know as I need to plan how we manage the numbers.
With 16 players the format works whereby winners play winners and losers, losers etc but guaranteeing everyone 4 games to find an ultimate winner and loser and involves 32 matches in total. Games will be to 11 but some people will start on minus points. The handicaps will come courtesy of your Squash Level points tally and internal Box position. I will appoint a handicap committee on the night to resolve any queries and to record tournament progress, we will try and make it so everyone has a chance to win.
We will draw out of a hat for whom plays whom obviously pre numbered from 1 to 16. Players currently not in the system of Box Leagues or Squash Levels will get a handicap from the Committee. As I say every year the handicap committee is entirely impartial however a promise of a pint normally does the trick for a favourable review….. In the spirit of Christmas entrants are requested to wear something red or at the very least a Santa Hat!
The event is intended to be more social than fiercely competitive although once the bugle goes, for the start of play, it is difficult not to compete to win. We will mark the matches as per Club Matches, to give people a chance to be marked and to practise marking as trying to score and mark a match gives you a new perspective on rules interpretations which is helpful.
