Squash Club Re Opens on Monday 12th April

In line with Step 2 of the Government COVID-19 Spring recovery roadmap the Squash Club is re opening on Monday 12th April. The squash courts will open for individual or same household sporting activity, as well as out-of-school-setting or coaching activities for children.

Squash players will be allowed to play:

• solo practice
• same household games
• one-to-one coaching.

As part of our Covid considerations and trying to modernise to make our lives simpler we are moving to contactless payment for the light meters. It has cost a bit up front to do this and the running costs of it are higher than using the coins however we think it is easier to use and more hygienically appropriate. The light meters will have 4 buttons on them for different periods of time as per below. Note the costs have moved to £1.20 per 8 minutes and £1.20 to book a court. You should still therefore be able to split the cost of a game between two players at £3.60 each. The price increase will fund the changeover in the long term and any other improvements required. You will note on your return the Squash Club corridor and hall have been re carpetted and the flooring in the changing rooms has been replaced. The main Club Wi-Fi has been extended to include the Squash Club and we are arranging for a mobile phone signal booster.

As ever we are trying to improve the facilities to reflect the modern world and we are aware that being sited in a mobile phone black spot was a source of irritation.

Light Meter Button times and costs.

8 mins £1.20,
16 mins £2.40,
24 mins £3.60
40 mins £6.00

As I write this note we haven’t completed the piece of work on the contactless meters or the signal booster and the Government has yet to issue it’s final advise on the rules. However the plan is the new meters will be installed and running for Monday and the Wi Fi is already up. The mobile phone signal booster is possibly still in the Suez Canal but it is on its way and will follow in the next 2/3 weeks.

What could possibly go wrong!

England Squash issue the formal notes on the rules of engagement agreed with the Government for Squash and any note from me is in line with this advice. The England Squash Web site URL is attached and you are welcome to browse it yourselves if you want to keep abreast of the situation as it evolves.

Last comment please note the Main Club is re opening on Saturday evenings only for waiter service drinks in the patio area. First night is Saturday April 17th. In due course in line with the Government timetable they will re open more fully and for indoor serving.

You will also see that the Main Club is actually open during the day every day apart from Wednesday’s and Sunday’s for use as a Rapid Test centre. People come and go from the local area to use the testing facility so there is some activity on site.

I hope to see some of you in the near future as we return to more normal times.

Regards
Richard May
