Burghfield Squash Teams Mid Term Progress Report

Burghfield Squash Club Teams Progress Report

It is half way through the season now so a brief update on the progress of our teams in the Berkshire Leagues.

Thursday night we have two teams. The 1st Team is in Divn 2 and are currently mid table, 4th out of 8 teams. The 2nd Team is in Divn 5 and is lying 3rd out of 7 teams only off the top spot by a single point. However, before blowing our own trumpet our relative success is that we have managed to turn out teams every fixture and thereby avoided penalty points for conceding a Walkover. Without that anomaly we would be a tad lower in the League.

The Monday night Vets Team is in Divn 2 of 3 and is currently 5th of 7 teams. Divn 2 is made up of teams who aspire to be a Divn 1 outfit and those desperate to return to Divn 3. We are somewhere in the middle but struggle with availability. Our strongest team would probably be at the top end of the league but realistically we rarely see them all in one piece and on the court.

The second half of the season starts in January and we desperately need a bigger squad for both Thursday’s and Monday’s. The teams are selected on merit and availability. The 2nd Team is intended as a development team for the 1st Team albeit with our current availability issues it is full of us old boys who do most of our best work in the bar as opposed to on Court.

If you want to look at the Berkshire Leagues and see our progress for yourself look up.

League Master

If you are interested in playing team squash for us please speak to me or anyone on the Committee or currently playing in the teams. If you want to be challenged, a cold and wet away day in the darkest depths of Berkshire is good for you albeit sometimes not at the time. Strange courts, one eyed referees and an unknown opponent none of whom co-operate. If you can cope with that and quickly learn to adapt it is good match experience.

As outlined above we do try to introduce new people to team squash in the 2nd Team where we try and help you learn the ropes.

We are on a recruitment drive and hope to see some new faces to help us out.

Merry Christmas to you all and I hope to see you soon.
