Squash Bubbles Introduced in Line with SRA Guidance From 1st September

Apologies for not getting this note out earlier as I have been on holiday and am still playing catch up.

Many of you will have received the note from England SRA or seen the Web site of the introduction of “Squash Bubbles” from 1st September. We at Burghfield are following the guidelines issued and are introducing this with immediate effect.

You can now play full normal rules Squash within your bubble, two people at a time, with a couple of minor suggestions on serving proposed by the SRA. The SRA note refers to Point a Rally PAR scoring to 11 but we suggest you are free to keep this to PAR to 15, we are not at the elite end of the game and you are on Court for 40 minutes, we therefore need to be realistic or we will end up with game scores of 6 all in a session. I leave that to you but as it is two people on Court for 40 minutes whichever you chose to score to is fine.

For the detailed advice on playing please see the SRA Web site.

The SRA define a bubble as 6 people so please work to this. I am the Club COVID 19 Officer and I propose we work to the following principles.

I can’t realistically maintain records of all of the potential bubbles in the Club so I am accepting that this element you will self administer following the rules the SRA have advised.
You do not need to write to me for permission to play or advise me of your bubbles.
A bubble is 6 people including yourself and you maintain the records.
Note if someone does not play within the bubble for a week they are effectively out of the bubble.

Bearing in mind injury and availability this allows a modicum of flexibility so your bubbles will evolve slowly over time but can never be more than 6 people in total. We have issued the guidelines on Club use during the pandemic previously and have all of the hand gels and sanitisers on site and are maintaining an increased cleaning regime which will not change. You are asked to continue to follow this guidance.

The Committee will monitor remotely Court usage via the Web site and the door entry log. Anyone clearly exceeding the bubble limit guidance will be spoken to to ascertain the issues. I exclude the Club Coaches in this who are clearly going to be starting back up following the SRA issued guidelines and will therefore have an element of Coaching one to many which is not counted within the bubble if they follow the SRA protocols.

If any of the above is confusing please feel free to contact me by e mail or on my number below. I may not know the answer to your query immediately but I will take it away and get back to you, if the matter is relevant to all I will ensure it is circulated to the rest of the Club for information.

Finally, this is not a return to a free for all, this is a limited relaxation of the Covid 19 precautions. With your co-operation I am sure it can be done successfully and in due course further relaxation can follow.

This is not a re introduction of the Box Leagues, there will not be inter Club Matches or even an internal Club Night until further relaxations are announced. We do hope however that it offers greater scope to enjoy a game or two and slowly we can work our way back to normality.

If it helps we are expecting County Inter Club competition to resume in January 2021. We therefore expect internal Club Box Leagues to be allowed prior to this but currently do not have a timeframe on this step.

Regards

Richard May
